B7.2.2 WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC)
The full title is “Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) – Joint declaration of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission relating to Article 9.”
The aim of this Directive is to prevention waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). It also aims to allow the reuse, recycling and recovery of such WEEE and to improve the environmental performance of all operators involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment. This includes producers, distributors, consumers and those who treat WEEE.
This Directive was transposed into UK law by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 [SI No. 3289].
