C7.3 Benefits of SEA

The SEA process should increase the amount of information available during the preparation of plans, programmes and policies. This should ensure that the possible impact on the environment is fully understood and that environmental protection measures can be included from an early stage.

The process requires consultation and transparency. Comments from the public must be analysed and this analysis must be made public. This should ensure that the public involved are more aware of the reasoning behind the decision making and therefore should be more in support of any decision.
