C3.3.4.4 Run Chart
By showing the specification limits on a chart it is possible to see at a glance if at any point the process is running out of specification.
This technique will show us when our process has gone out of specification so that we can take appropriate action (the “reactive” approach). The more “proactive” or “preventive” approach would be where we are able to monitor the process more closely, such as by looking for trends in the performance of our process – so that we can take action before an out of specification condition is achieved.
This might be useful when plotting results from monitoring of trade effluent discharge. For example, you can note the maximum permitted levels of COD and the run chart will highlight if you exceed this level.
