C10.4.2 Why engage with Stakeholders?
Quite simply, you need them!
For example, without investors an organisation may struggle financially. Without Customers or Clients an organisation has no one to work for; no one to buy its products. Without employees you have no one to conduct work for you. If you upset your neighbours they may object to activities conducted on your premises causing local Enforcing Authorities to block development plans or to take action.
It is also true to say that effective communication (and consultation) with stakeholders can assist you to identify key environmental impacts. This can influence the decision-making process and may also eliminate potential problems before they arise.
Stakeholder engagement is in essence, reaching out to these groups that are affected by your organisation and finding out what their expectations are so that you can effectively respond to them.
