A4.14.2 The Carbon Trust Standard
The Carbon Trust Standard was developed by the Carbon Trust to encourage good practice in carbon measurement, management and reduction by businesses and public sector organisations.
It is designed to provide a robust, objective and consistent methodology for assessing corporate carbon performance. The Standard specifies requirements in 3 key areas:
- Carbon footprint measurement
- Carbon management
- Carbon reduction performance
Assessment against the Standard is undertaken by independent third-party assessors. The assessment process is managed by the Carbon Trust Standard Company – a subsidiary of the Carbon Trust.
Assessment Criteria:
To achieve the Carbon Trust Standard you must meet the following criteria:
1. Footprint measurement: your organisation must measure its footprint accurately and include all required emission sources.
2. Reduction: you must achieve an absolute reduction the footprint or equivalent relative efficiency improvement.
3. Carbon management: carbon governance, accounting, reduction methods and targets of your organisation must be shown to meet the required standard.
