A3.3.3 Pathways of Pollutants
Pollutants may affect more than one media (i.e. land, air and water) and they may affect a different media than simply the one they were emitted to. For example:
- Pollutant emitted to land that affects water
- Fertiliser applied to a farming crop, washed off the land and into a river would pollute water.
- Pollutant emitted to air that affects land
- Acid rain falls to earth and soaks into land.
- Pollutant emitted to air that affects water
- Acid rain washes into watercourse.
